How do I become a Trustee?
If you are 18 or older, a citizen of the United States, and have lived in the Rock Valley College district for at least one year immediately preceding the election, then you can seek a board seat on the Rock Valley College Board of Trustees.
Elections are held in April of odd-numbered years, with trustees serving staggered six-year terms. The board is comprised of seven elected officials and one student trustee who is elected annually by the student body and serves a one-year term.
The date of the April odd-year election and related filing dates are announced by the Illinois Board of Elections and Rock Valley College in August of the year prior to the election. Each candidate must submit a petition signed by at least 50 voters in the district and submit it along with other statements of candidacy to the local election official prior to the filing deadline, which usually falls near the end of December. The location and hours for picking up and filing election packets will be announced at the same time as the April election.

2023 Consolidated Election
The Consolidated Election for members of the Board of Trustees of Community College District No. 511 (Rock Valley College) will be held April 4, 2023. At this election, two board members shall be elected for a term of six years each. Said election shall be conducted by the County Clerks of the Counties within this District and the Board of Election Commissioners of the City of Rockford in the manner provided in the “Illinois Election Code” for conducting such elections.
Nominating petition forms will be available beginning Tuesday, September 20, 2022 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the office of the vice president of finance in the Support Services Building on the main campus located at 3301 North Mulford Road, Rockford, IL.
The first day to circulate nominating petitions is Tuesday, September 20, 2022.
Statements of candidacy and nominating petitions shall be filed in the Financial Services office in the Support Services Building at Rock Valley College, 3301 N. Mulford Road, Rockford, Illinois between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. CST each day except Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays beginning on Monday, December 12, 2022 and ending on Monday, December 19, 2022.
The petition documents must be filed no earlier than 8:30 a.m. December 12, 2022 and no later than 4:30 p.m. on December 19, 2022.
