Starlight Theatre Receives Lou Recommended Honors for All Four Main Stage Shows

Rock Valley College Starlight Theatre is proud to announce that all four of its 2025 main stage productions have been awarded a “Lou Recommended” designation by the Lou Awards, recognizing excellence in community theatre.

The Lou Awards, Inc. recognizes, promotes, and celebrates excellence in community theatre in the North and Northwest counties of Illinois. Currently, thirteen community theatres in northern Illinois are participating members in the Lou Awards.

The “Lou Recommended” designation is awarded by a panel of reviewers who evaluate productions based on artistic merit, innovation, and audience response. It serves as a trusted marker for theatergoers seeking top-quality performances in the region. Note that these are not nominations as of yet, but are exciting benchmarks to see regardless!

The honored productions — The SpongeBob Musical, Grease, Ragtime, and The Wedding Singer — each received outstanding reviews by patrons for their direction, performances, design, and overall impact. More than 220 local actors and over 75 back stage crew members helped build this tremendous season.  This marks a significant milestone for RVC Starlight, reflecting its ongoing commitment to artistic excellence and community engagement.

Now in its 59th season, RVC Starlight Theatre continues to be a cultural cornerstone in the Rockford region. Generations of families have performed, built sets, ushered, and celebrated the joy of storytelling under the stars. The “Lou Recommended” stamp is a reflection of that legacy — and a sign that the spirit of local, live theater is stronger than ever.

“We are thrilled that all four of our productions recognized in such a manner,” said Chris Brady, Artistic Director of RVC Starlight Theatre. “These recommendations are a testament to the dedication and passion of our entire creative team, our incredible performers, the college, and the community that supports us.”

RVC Starlight Theatre invites audiences to join in celebrating this achievement and experience the magic under the stars. Tickets are available now for the SpongeBob Musical, Grease, Ragtime, and The Wedding Singer, for June and July. For more information, visit RockValleyCollege.edu/Starlight.
