Starlight Clocks in with Comedy
Based on the hit film, 9 to 5 The Musical follows three office workers who turn the tables on their sexist, self-absorbed boss.
9 to 5 The Musical comes to Starlight Theatre June 24 - 27 and July 29 - August 2.
Violet, Doralee, and Judy take charge in a hilarious story of friendship, empowerment, and sweet revenge—all set to an infectious Dolly Parton score. Filled with humor, heart, and a touch of country sparkle, this high-energy show celebrates the power of teamwork and standing up for what’s right. Performances run June 24-27 and July 29-August 2 at Starlight Theatre.
“At its heart, I believe that 9 to 5: The Musical celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of female friendship in overcoming adversity.” Director Tessa Castaneda said. “The three women, Violet, Doralee, and Judy, discover that their dreams and plans are achievable when they activate themselves to change. That unity, determination, and the fight for what’s right will not only uplift themselves, but their entire community.”
For Castaneda theatre is a way to escape and a chance to take an opportunity to reflect.
“To me, theater is more than a form of escape; it reflects life. It is chaotic and hopeful, funny and heartfelt, while still confronting difficult truths. 9 to 5: The Musical captures all of this through Dolly Parton’s unforgettable score and lyrics, paired with Patricia Resnick’s sharp, fast-paced, and witty book. This show allows us to enjoy a night of singing and dancing while reflecting on how far we’ve come, how far we still have to go, and that change is possible.”
This milestone season for Starlight also marks Castaneda’s directorial debut.
“I love this musical for exactly this reason, and I am incredibly honored that Chris Brady, along with our cast, crew, and creative team, entrusted me with bringing this story to life on the Starlight stage for my directorial debut.”
Castaneda emphasized how grateful she is for Brandon, Vicky, Jenny, Jess K, Jess S, Aaron, Marilyn, Kai, Ethan, Cadence and Elyssa as well as the cast, crew and volunteers that helped make this production possible.
“I am grateful to all of them. This is what allows us to continue to bring shows to
the audience, the most important part of the Starlight Theatre community," said Castaneda.
“We hope the audience enjoys this zany, optimistic, and hilarious show." Castaneda
thanks the audience members for coming to see 9 to 5 after spending the day making a livin' at their own 9 to 5.
