New to RVC? Let us help!

Just follow these simple steps:

  • Apply on-line: All new students attending Rock Valley College must complete an application for admission, regardless of the program of study or courses they intend to complete.
  • Placement Testing: The purpose of the Rock Valley College Placement Test (ACCUPLACER) is to assess your current skills in reading, English and math for placement into appropriate coursework at RVC. It is an online test featuring a computer-based format, unlimited time and immediate scores.

  • Educational Planning Session: It is mandatory for all new credit seeking students to attend an Educational Planning Session (some exceptions apply- see criteria on EPS main page.) This hour and half long session will provide you with the tools needed to be successful at Rock Valley College.
  • New Student Welcome Events: These events include a campus tour, mock classrooms, and other important information for you and your family’s transition to RVC.
  • STU 100- Orientation for College Students course: Orientation for College Students is a course designed to acquaint students with the community college, how it is organized, its offerings, and the role it plays in the community. Units of study also include an introduction to learning in college, the world of work, personal problems in college, student personnel services, and students' values and needs. Credit earned is elective credit and will apply toward graduation. This course is worth one credit hour, counts towards graduation and is transferable.
  • Library E-Books- Learn how to become successful in your first year!: The Rock Valley College Library and the Office of Student Retention and Success are excited to have new students join our community and want to help facilitate their transition to Rock Valley College. As part of this effort, the New Student E-Book Collection was created to cover a range of topics related to the transition to college life.
