The role of the SGA (Student Government Association)  is to support and advocate for the students at Rock Valley College through service and leadership. We are a body of students elected by our peers to serve as your voice on campus.

How do I get involved with SGA?


  1. Meet us in the Student Government office (also the Student Life office), located behind Papa John's in the Student Center and between the Club Resource Room and the Campus Activities Board (CAB) room #1122.
  2. Contact the Student Government office at (815) 921-4188.
  3. Contact an SGA member (see box at right).
  4. Come to our meetings! We meet every Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the Student Center Atrium.

Meet Your Student Trustee

Devon Pettigen Student TrusteeRVC's current Student Trustee is Devon Pettigen.

Devon Pettigen was elected as the student representative to the Board of Trustees in April of 2017. He is a self-published author, political activist and public speaker. He graduated from high school in Houston, TX in 2012. While at Rock Valley College, he is pursuing an Associate of Arts with the hopes of obtaining his Ph.D. in philosophy or organizational leadership. He has dreams of becoming a renowned professor at a prestigious university, starting his own four-year university, and is currently the co-founder of an emerging think tank and research institution, The Rock Valley Institute. His primary goal as Student Trustee is to improve communication between students and the governing bodies of the college.
