Starting May 19, EIGERlab will address a workforce training concern with the addition of a seven week, credentialed Assembly WORKS (AW)—advanced assembly training. TechWorks Advisory Council, which includes representatives from many of our region’s manufacturers, has identified a shortage and need for skilled assembly personnel. The TechWorks Advisory Council assisted in creating the new custom curriculum.

Dan Cataldi, executive director of the EIGERlab stated, “We’ve had impressive results with our six week FastTrack CNC machine operator training—some students have even been hired prior to graduation. Acting on the TechWorks Advisory Council’s request, our goal is to provide a new type of trained assemblers who can meet the advanced needs of current assembly operations.”

Local manufactures who have reviewed the curriculum are impressed with the results and have committed to send incumbent workers through the program or to hire graduates.

All TechWorks FastTrack students learn the basics—ACT WorkKeys Assessment, Job Readiness, Safety, Shop Math, Blueprint Reading and Metrology. In addition, Assembly students will learn about soldering, torqueing, hydraulics and specific assembly-related material through online, classroom and hands-on training. Graduates will earn a nationally recognized National Institute of Manufacturing Skills (NIMS) credential in Measurement, Material and Safety.

If interested, potential students should phone 815.316.6354 to schedule the initial steps prior to the first class. In total, the seven week class will cost $1,900 per student. EIGERlab assists qualified students with a payment program when necessary. For information on AW, phone 815.316.6354 or visit http://www.eigerlab.org/techworks-workforce-training/.
