Student Life

So you’ve come to Rock Valley College, registered for classes and purchased your books. Congratulations, you’ve got the hard part done. However, if you stop at this point, you’ll be selling yourself short. This is where Student Life steps in.

Student Life is a department located in the Student Center — the heart of campus — but the word ‘department’ doesn‘t quite fit our personality. Essentially, Student Life is you. It’s your choices, your friends, and your fully realized college experience. By going to events, interacting with fellow students, and giving yourself the chance to escape the ‘parking lot-classroom-parking lot’ routine, you open yourself up to a whole set of new possibilities. Student Life is here to allow you to see those possibilities.

Basically, what we’re trying to get at is that without you, there is no Student Life. So, in every way possible, we encourage you to get involved, truly experience college, and BE IT!
Student Life is funded by your $3 per credit hour activity fee, so we feel you have the right to know what we’re doing with your money.

Fall and Spring Welcome Weeks

These weeks are dedicated to welcoming new and returning students to campus at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. Most Welcome Week events are planned by the Campus Activities Board (CAB) for your entertainment, so don’t be surprised to see comedy acts or live musical performances.

Club Days

At the beginning of each semester, usually on Wednesday during Welcome Week, you can swing by Club Day. All of the student clubs and organizations come together at a central location to display their information so that you can learn about what they have to offer and decide which club(s) you would like to become a member of.

The HUB is the focal point for Student Life activities and information. Clubs and organizations and various campus departments will often be at the HUB to distribute information, host an event, or give away free food. It’s the big horseshoe in the middle of the Student Center lobby...you can’t miss it!

The Student Lounge

The Student Lounge is located on the first floor of the Student Center across from the computer lab. There are tables and chairs, comfy couches, and a big screen TV! It’s a great place to hang out with other students when you’re in between your classes or grabbing a bite to eat.
