EMS Paramedic Program
If you are an EMT and want to become a paramedic, now is the time to start! The Paramedic Program will begin in January, 2013 and will be held at Rock Valley College, Stenstrom Center for Career Education. Paramedics work with ambulance services, fire departments, hospitals, clinics, and blood banks. The need for emergency medical response by trained ambulance personnel has seen a persistent growth over the last five years. Hospitals, private ambulance services and local career and volunteer fire departments are increasing their services to meet the emergency response needs of the community. Paramedics provide advanced life support pre-hospital care to patients on an emergency scene and during transport to a medical facility. Paramedics are trained in cardiology, Pharmacology, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and the use of associated equipment used to support advanced life support operations. Students who successfully complete this 2-year program will be prepared to challenge the National Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic Exam (NEMTP). Upon successful completion, the examination graduates will be nationally certified to perform Advanced Life Support(ALS) measures under the directions of an emergency medical director.
