Before You See A Counselor

Here are some things to consider before your counseling visit:

  1. ACT, placement test, or proof of transfer credit are required before you can register for classes. If you took the ACT’s within the past 2 years, you can request a copy of your high school transcripts and the scores will be on the back. If you need to take the placement test, please call the testing Center at (815) 921-2380.

  2. Please try to have an idea of what your area of study will be.

  3. Please be specific when identifying your goals. For example, if you plan to transfer to a 4-year school or if you plan on taking classes to better your skills at work.

  4.  If you are looking for information on transfer degrees and related courses (AA, AS, IAI), please check with the front desk. It is very important that you indicate whether you are transferring into or out of RVC.

  5. If you are checking on open/closed classes, please check with the front desk, or check RVC Online Services.

  6. Check out the catalog sheet for course descriptions and pre-requisite information.

  7. Look through the class schedule and try to work on a schedule while you wait. Feel free to ask for assistance at the front desk.

  8. For copies or questions regarding class schedules, transcripts, degree audits, etc., please check at the front desk. If you are looking to have your RVC transcripts sent to another school, you need to go to Admissions and Records on the top floor of the Student Center.

  9. For general questions regarding classes or if you only need to add one or two classes to your schedule, please check at the front desk.

  10. To get information on how to get started in the health careers, (LPN, RN, Dental Hygiene, Surgical Technology, etc.), please check with the front desk.

  11. To see what to take with the Reading classes, please check with the front desk.

  12. For information on changing your career, please check with the Career Services and Placement Office, which is located on the 2nd floor of the Student Center.

  13. For information on grants, scholarships, Veteran’s Services, or Work Study positions, please check with the Financial Aid Office, which is located on the 2nd floor of the Student Center.

  14. For information on EMT classes, please check with the Community Education Office, which is located on the top floor of the Student Center, or by calling (815) 921-3900.

  15. For information regarding the location of, or the contact numbers for certain professors or departments, please check at the front desk.

We are asking for your cooperation with the things on this list with the hope that it will speed the waiting process along. We also realize that each student has a different situation, and that some people may take a little bit longer than others. Hopefully, with your cooperation and your patience, we can make this a pleasant experience for everyone.
