The Rock Valley College HONORS Program is designed to provide an enriching experience for exceptional, motivated students who seek intellectual and academic challenges in their college studies. The HONORS Program is aimed at students who desire invigorating study, who want to learn for the sake of learning, and who want a college degree that testifies to an exemplary course of study in the tradition of the liberal arts.

HONORS Program offerings are intended to foster discussion, a mastery of content, critical thinking, and analysis.  The Program is designed to help develop student initiative and leadership skills. Various academic options are combined with extracurricular activities to enhance the Program. The emphasis is on close interaction among HONORS faculty & students who together strive toward academic and personal excellence combined with a connection to the campus community through HONORS→Connections.

HONORS students will be asked to show in-depth, critical understanding of course material through intense class discussion, group work, individual initiative, peer as well as faculty review and evaluation, and both independent and collaborative research.  The goal is to empower a community of students and faculty who value academic challenge and excellence. When exceptional students and faculty are brought together with innovative course content and exceptional interaction, the outcome is education in the truest sense of the word.

In summary, the HONORS Program at Rock Valley College seeks to provide quality education through interdisciplinary interaction, heightened communication, increased teamwork, enhanced creativity and self-expression, an eagerness for experimentation and discovery, enhanced leadership skills, a sense of community involvement, and overall academic excellence, achievement, and learning.
