Suicide Awareness and Prevention

Suicidal thoughts can affect anyone of any gender or age. An astonishing 47,173 Americans died by suicide in 2017 including 44 people in Boone and Winnebago counties and 52 individuals in 2018. Come hear from various speakers and resources in the community as we come together to help raise awareness about suicide prevention and ways to get out of that darkness. One conversation can change a life.

Mental Health Awareness

The more we can help people understand that managing a mental illness isn’t that different from managing diabetes or high blood pressure, the more “normal” people will feel about having mental health conditions. – David Susman, PHD. The focus of this discussion will be to educate and increase awareness about mental illnesses including major depressive disorder and anxiety to help put an end to stigma and advocate for treatment and recovery.

Managing Stress

Do you ever ask yourself “How can I get this all done.” Being able to manage stress is important for your academic success and personal well-being in college. This discussion will provide you with information about how to recognize different kinds of stress, various sources of stress for college students, as well as tips for self-care and coping in a healthy way.
