If you've checked out a book from the Rock Valley College Library, Lukas Wenner has likely helped you. Lukas is RVC's Circulation Services Coordinator.

Lukas earned both his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and  Master's of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee (UWM).

After graduating with his bachelor's degree, he went on to work in behavioral health for two years. Lukas's undergraduate studies sparked an interest in library science, though.

"I relied heavily on my academic library during my undergraduate degree because I worked in affective neuroscience research," says Lukas. "After working in behavioral health, I decided I missed the academic setting, especially research, and began my MLIS at UWM."

Lukas's favorite book is The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. He says he has more nostalgia for it than any other book. "It was one of the first books I ever read as a child, and I recently bought an illustrated copy to read to my son."

Lukas is able to connect visitors with all the books and resources the RVC library has to offer.

"We're not just a warehouse for books," says Lukas. "We offer a lot of different services, including help with research for assignments and finding hard-to-find books, films, and articles. Our website has loads of free resources, including video streaming services like Kanopy, and we even have a small studio for recording podcasts, youtube videos, and multimedia homework assignments."

And there are even more reasons to visit and utilize the library on top of that.

"We also have CD, DVD, magazine, and journal collections you can browse."

In Lukas's opinion, the biggest reason to visit the library is to get professional research assistance from the librarians.

We asked him his advice for RVC students, and he said, "Enjoy your time at RVC. The community college experience is no less legitimate than going straight to a 4-year institution so take advantage of everything we have to offer!"

And with that, we encourage you to take full advantage of the library. We hope that the RVC library can inspire some of you to pursue a career in library science like UWM's library did for Lukas.
