Rock Valley College is seeking community assistance to aid with campus cleanup efforts. The storm on Monday, which has been classified as an EF1 tornado, touched down on the RVC main campus behind the Woodward Technology Center and by the creek, causing significant damage and spreading debris throughout the college grounds. The College is looking for volunteers (18 years or older) from the community who would be willing to come out on Friday, August 14, from noon to 4 p.m., or Saturday, August 15, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Important instructions for volunteers:

  • Enter campus via the Mulford Road entrance (address is 3301 N Mulford Road, Rockford IL 61114).
  • Pull into the first parking lot (Lot 1, first right when you enter off Mulford Road).
  • Look for a white Rock Valley College Police Emergency Response trailer and check-in at the trailer.
  • Sign waiver and receive safety training and be issued a vest to wear.
  • Wear closed toe shoes or preferably boots.
  • Bring heavy duty gloves (RVC will have gloves for those who do not have any).
  • Bring eye protection (RVC will have eye protection for those who do not have any).

On Saturday, a box lunch, water, and snacks will be available to all who volunteer to work. Any volunteers who are unable to work the entire day are still welcome and can leave after checking out with the area supervisor.

As this community’s college, we appreciate any assistance our community can provide at this time to restore our campus and ensure it is once again safe to welcome back students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
