As many of you may know by now, the RVC main campus (Mulford Road) was hit hard by the tornado that came through the Rockford region on Monday afternoon. Our maintenance crews and campus police officers, in addition to faculty and staff volunteers, have been working around the clock daily to clear the campus of dangerous debris and downed trees. Unfortunately, there is still much work to do to ensure the campus will be safe enough to welcome students, faculty, staff, and other visitors back to campus. Please do not come to the RVC main campus (Mulford Road) until further notice.
The timing of this disaster will obviously impact the first week of classes. Although the majority of our course offerings this fall are online, we do have a number of hybrid courses with face-to-face components. If you have a hybrid class that was to meet for labs or other face-to-face instruction on the main campus (Mulford Road), those courses will be online for the first week of classes only (August 15-21). After the first week, the course will shift back to its intended hybrid format (50% online, 50% face-to-face labs/instruction). Again, this only applies to courses that had a face-to-face component meeting on the main campus and only applies for the first week of classes. If your class meets in-person at any of our other campus locations, those classes are proceeding as intended when the semester begins this Saturday, 8/15.
If you have any questions about your specific course and how it will be affected, please contact your instructor directly. If you need help and support in an online environment, please continue to utilize the resources we established in EAGLE during the spring semester:
For students who need assistance from any of our student services, such as Academic Advising, Financial Aid, Payment, and/or Registration, during the campus closure period, please continue to contact the department you need directly via email or phone or use our chat feature on the website to ask a question. You can find key department contact information at rockvalleycollege.edu/contact. Face-to-face appointments will be rescheduled and will not occur during this week of cleanup.
Finally, you should have received an email on Wednesday regarding acquiring your books for the fall semester. The Bookstore has been contacting students directly who had appointments for picking up to let you know they are being shipped. If you have not heard from them or need to check on an order status, please contact the Bookstore directly at (815) 921-1680 or firstname.lastname@example.org or visit the Bookstore website at https://rvc.bncollege.com/shop/rvc/home.
We sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate yet another crisis affecting our college. We are doing everything we can to ensure that your educational experience at RVC will not be derailed and that you will get the quality education you deserve under these unprecedented circumstances we are all facing.
