The following is a joint statement from the Rock Valley College Board of Trustees and the Rock Valley College Faculty Association (Local 6211):
After six months of bargaining, the Rock Valley College Board of Trustees signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Rock Valley College Faculty Association on June 23. The MOU extends the terms of the current collective bargaining agreement by one year. Due to the current health crisis and related economic uncertainty, both parties agreed to temporarily halt negotiations for a five-year agreement.
RVC Faculty Association President Danielle Hardesty said, “Both parties made compromises, but the MOU reflects our collective commitment to putting students first in these challenging times. The faculty will continue to work with the board and the administration to provide the same high-quality educational opportunities to our community, regardless of the circumstances.”
Rock Valley College Interim President Beth Young stated: “Extending the contract for an additional year and restarting negotiations in the spring made a lot of sense as it allows the College to focus its energies on the challenges of providing instruction during the continuing pandemic. This move truly places the needs of our students first and foremost in a time of crisis.”
Summer session is currently underway at the college, with all instruction being conducted online.
The Rock Valley College Faculty Association (Local 6211) represents 118 faculty members at RVC. The local is affiliated with the Illinois Federation of Teachers.
