Rock Valley College is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Lewis as the college’s Vice President of Community Outreach & Strategic Partnerships. In this role, Lewis will be responsible for the internal and external design, development and implementation of college-wide strategic and operational planning activities, and conducting community needs analysis that will expand the college’s external community relationship and programing to build enrollment growth with new and emerging markets.
“Building strong community partnerships has been a priority for the college in recent years and I am confident that under Chris’ leadership we will see more public and private partnerships developed that will strengthen both the college and the community we serve,” said Dr. Doug Jensen, President of Rock Valley College.
Lewis comes to Rockford from Alabama where he worked for the Alabama Community College System since 2015. He served in numerous roles during that time, including Interim President of J.F. Drake State Community & Technical College and Special Assistant to the Chancellor in Workforce for the Alabama Community College System (ACCS). Lewis has extensive experience with adult education and workforce development, and in developing relationships with external organizations to raise the awareness of the mission and services provided in higher education.
His professional experience also includes a background in private sector financial services, non-profit corporate work promoting minority business development, and as a former business owner serving as Managing Partner for L&S Enterprises. He also has extensive experience in small business development from serving as Director of Supplier Diversity for Motion Industries.
Lewis has been active in his community and looks forward to engaging with community organizations in the Rockford region. His past board affiliations include Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority, 100 Black Men of Birmingham, Business Council of Alabama, Alabama Transit Association, and Green Resource Center for Alabama. He has also served on several State Commissions.
Lewis holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Financial Management from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, a MBA in management from Troy University, and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Adult Education from Auburn University. He and his wife Sybil have three adult children.
