Top students from 10 area high schools will compete in the 2018 Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE) Academic Challenge regional competition on Friday, February 2, 2018, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Rock Valley College Main Campus (3301 N. Mulford Road, Rockford, IL)
The WYSE challenge is a contest for high school students and involves exams in the areas of chemistry, biology, mathematics, computer science, engineering graphics, English and biology. Area high schools compete for the right to challenge teams at the next level.
Participating high schools include Durand, Stillman Valley, Byron, Keith Country Day, Pecatonica, Hononegah, Harlem, Auburn (participating at the Kishwaukee regional), Lutheran, Winnebago and Sterling.
Winners will advance to the sectional competition at Northern Illinois University and winners from the NIU sectional will then compete at the state level. Schools compete against other schools based on enrollment. Levels of enrollment are divided beginning with 300 (or less), 700, 1500, or unlimited.
