The Rock Valley College women's basketball team has won the Region IV tournament for a third straight season after defeating Madison College this afternoon in the championship game at the College of DuPage, 90-71.
That means the Golden Eagles will advance to the NJCAA tournament for the third straight season, seeking a third straight national championship.
The RVC women finished the regular season with a record of 24-5, including a perfect 14-0 record in conference play. It was the fourth straight N4C title for the Golden Eagles and RVC's conference record over those four seasons is an astounding 48-1.
They are currently the #1 ranked team in NJCAA Division III, a spot they have held for over a year.
Not to be outdone, the RVC men's basketball team will get a taste of the national tournament for a second year in a row after defeating Joliet Junior College in the Region IV championship game for the second straight season. RVC won in thrilling fashion, 72-70.
RVC led by three with under ten seconds to play but Joliet knocked down a deep three to tie the game at 70 with four seconds left on the clock. Joliet was quickly whistled for a foul that put LT Davis at the line for the Golden Eagles. Davis missed the first, but converted the second for a 71-70 lead. After a missed shot by the Wolves, Jared Mayes sealed the win with a free throw that put RVC up 72-70.
Mayes was named tournament MVP.
The Golden Eagles return to the NJCAA tournament for the second time in two seasons under head coach Craig Doty. They placed seventh at the NJCAA tournament last season.
