Rock Valley College softball player Vivi Marquez has signed a letter of intent to continue her athletic and academic college career at Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa.
RVC hosted a special ceremony for Vivi this evening in the Physical Education Center as she signed her letter of intent.
Marquez, a sophomore catcher from Hononegah High School, batted .504 for the Golden Eagles as a freshman during the 2013 season. She finished third in the nation in runs batted in for NJCAA Division III with 70 and finished fourth in the nation in home runs with 10. Marquez scored 67 runs in 41 games and added 17 doubles and eight stolen bases, while slugging .884 with an on-base percentage of .578.
She was named conference MVP and first team all-conference catcher for the N4C (North Central Community College Conference), all-region for NJCAA Region IV, and was named an NJCAA All-American. In September, Marquez was also named a Diamond Sports Catcher of the Year by the NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) and Diamond Sports, an award presented annually to the top catcher from an NFCA member institution in each of the following divisions: NCAA (Divisions I, II, and III), NAIA, NJCAA (Divisions I, II, and III), Cal JC, NWAACC, and high school.
