The Rock Valley College athletics department recently made the decision to add both men's and women's soccer programs and today RVC has announced the hiring of Frank Horvat for the position of Men's Soccer Head Coach.
Horvat has over 30 years of experience coaching soccer in the Rockford area. For the last eight years he has worked as the Director of Coaching at Rock Run Soccer Club where his responsibilities included player development, recruitment of players and coaches, coaching development, and scheduling.
He spent 12 years (1993-2005) as the Head Women's Soccer Coach at Northern Illinois University where his teams won two Mid-American Conference regular season and tournament titles (1997 and 1998).
Prior to that, Horvat was the Head Boys and Girls Soccer Coach at Boylan High School for seven years. As the boys coach (1986-1992) he compiled a 109-50-14 record, won seven Illinois High School Association (IHSA) regional titles, and made four appearances in the IHSA Sweet 16. As the girls coach (1987-1992) his teams went 109-22-10 and advanced to the IHSA Elite 8 in each of his six seasons. For both sports combined over his eight years, Horvat was named Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association Region Coach of the Year eight times and NIC-9 Coach of the Year seven times.
Horvat's coaching career began while he was a student at Rockford College. He coached for the first club program in the area, Rockford United, and after graduating became an assistant coach for Rockford College.
Both men's and women's soccer at RVC will begin play in the fall of 2014 and will compete in the N4C (North Central Community College Conference) at the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) Division III level.
