Rock Valley College

Library Services

Services for Administrators and Staff

The library offers information assistance for RVC employees enrolled in college coursework. The information resources of the Library are also available to all college offices in support of departmental projects and reports. The Library’s resources include: books, videos/CDs/DVDs, articles from professional journals, interlibrary loan, training, reference, and research help.

Services for Faculty

The Rock Valley College Library offers several services which provide support for our faculty.

What is Information Literacy?

Information literacy is knowing how to find information, evaluate it, and use it effectively.

Working together with faculty, librarians introduce students to skills needed to function in today's information-based society. These skills include the ability to locate, analyze, evaluate, and synthesize information.

How do I schedule a class session with a librarian?

To schedule a class session contact Maria Figiel-Krueger (ext. 4606) or the liaison librarian for your department. The liaison librarian serves as contact person for faculty, staff and students in a department.

Place an Item on Reserve

The Library's Reserve collection contains items placed on reserve by faculty for their students. These items may be from the Library's collection or be owned by the faculty member placing them on reserve. Circulation of reserve items is tightly controlled to allow all students fair access to the material.

To place an item on reserve, a Reserve Request Form must be completed and submitted to the Library Circulation Desk. Reserve Request Forms may be printed out or may be obtained directly from the Circulation Desk. If a faculty member's personal copies of an item are to be placed on reserve, they must accompany the form. For best results, requests should be submitted a week in advance of the students' need to use the materials.

Recommend an Item for Purchase

The basic purpose of our collection is to support all the curriculums at Rock Valley College. Faculty are encouraged to become involved in improving our collection by suggesting materials that should be purchased to compliment their classes.

All librarians are assigned collection development responsibilities. You may consult a list of the areas of responsibility for each liaison librarian. Librarians work closely with Acquisitions staff who order and receive book and media materials and Periodicals staff who handle new journal title requests. There is an online Book or Media Request Form available.

We welcome your comments about and suggestions for our collection. Please contact: Brent Eckert, Technical Services Librarian, at (815) 921-4604 or b.eckert@rockvalleycollege.edu

Services for Distance Learning

The Estelle M. Black (EMB) Library supports the distance learning students and instructors of Rock Valley College. There are many resources available to assist students and instructors in finding, retrieving and evaluating information to support their online coursework.
