Sociology

SOCIOLOGY is the study of society a social science involving the study of the social lives of people, groups, and societies the study of our behavior as social beings, covering everything from the analysis of short contacts between anonymous individuals on the street to the study of global social processes the scientific study of social aggregations, the entities through which humans move throughout their lives' an overarching unification of all studies of humankind, including history, psychology, and economics (American Sociological Association).

Exploring the study of our social world brings to light many questions and opposing opinions regarding numerous aspects and levels of social life.  Studying Sociology is an effective way to challenge preconceptions and encourage understanding of how various social forces influence trends in social behavior and inform social policy.  Sociology invites a multidimensional view of human social behavior and develops an understanding of the interrelationship between social forces, social conditions, and the social responses that construct the larger society. Sociology courses emphasize conceptual and methodological tools necessary for the scientific investigation of human social behavior.  Sociology courses provide the opportunity to apply these methodologies to foster a solid intellectual framework for continued analysis of the complex and controversial topics that define our social world.
