General Questions

Is there a catalog with the class schedule for the spring semester?

  • Yes. The spring 2023 catalogs were mailed to members on January 6, 2023. The schedule for spring reflects classes offered in February, March, April and May.

NOTE: Only current CLR members and CLR members from the prior year are mailed a copy of the CLR catalog containing the class schedule. It can be mailed to anyone upon request. Email Allison King at A.King@RockValleyCollege.edu or call (815) 921-3931 to request a copy.

How many classes will be offered for the spring?

  • There will be 136 CLR classes offered this fall including in-person, online, and hybrid options, as well as college collaboration classes (online only). CLR will also feature NEW Zoom Rooms for specific online classes this spring! For these classes, a classroom will be made available for participants without online access at home. Participants will then have the option of coming to the Bell School Road Center for group online viewing.

How do you register for classes?

  • Once you receive the CLR spring catalog in the mail, you will find a class registration form inside. You can also find these forms using the blue 'CLR Classes' tab on the right of this page. Select your desired classes, fill out the form, attach payment in the form of a check and mail to: Rock Valley College - CLR, 3301 N. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL 61114.
  • You can also bring your registration form with check or cash payment to the CLR office (3350 N. Bell School Rd., Rockford, IL 61114) during our normal business hours or place it in the black drop box outside the west door. All forms are also available in the CLR office.

NOTE: Only current CLR members and CLR members from the prior year are mailed a copy of the CLR catalog containing the class schedule. It can be mailed to anyone upon request. Email Allison King at A.King@RockValleyCollege.edu or call (815) 921-3931 to request a copy.

Is there a registration deadline?

  • The registration deadline for in-person classes is any time before the class begins (as long as the class is not at capacity). If registering for an online class, it's best to register one day prior to the class. (Zoom information for online classes is emailed one day prior to the class around 2:00 PM). If you are registering the day before a class starts, you will need to bring payment in the form of cash or check to the CLR office at the Bell School Road Center (3350 N. Bell School Rd., Rockford, IL 61114).

NOTE: CLR does not accept credit/debit, over-the-phone, or online payments.

Will we be able to pay for our classes online?

  • CLR is not currently set up to take online payments. You will need to fill out the registration form, attach payment, and mail to the CLR office at Rock Valley College - CLR, 3301 N. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL 61114  or  bring to the CLR office during our normal business hours. If outside of our business hours, you can place registration and payment in the drop box outside the west entrance of the Bell School Road Center.

Will I get a schedule of my classes after I register?

  • Yes. Two weeks prior to the semester start date on February 6, all registered participants will be mailed a copy of their Student Schedule confirming all classes. For ALL CLR classes (in-person, online, and hybrid), you will receive an email reminder from the CLR office one day prior to the class start date.

NOTE: If you register for spring classes after January 25, you can request a copy of your Student Schedule be emailed to you. Contact Allison King at A.King@RockValleyCollege.edu or call (815) 921-3931.

  • If your class is IN-PERSON, confirm your classes with your student schedule and arrive at the assigned location of the class at the scheduled date/time. The CLR facilitator assigned to the class will direct you from there.
  • If your class is ONLINE via Zoom, you will receive an email with the Zoom link to your class along with any handouts that have been provided by the instructor one day prior to the scheduled start date around 2:00 PM.

NOTE: If you are taking an ONLINE class, please do not share the Zoom link with other students as our CLR facilitators will be checking students into the class using the CLR registration roster.

Will I be reminded of a CLR class coming up that I registered for?

  • Yes. For all future CLR classes, an email reminder will be sent on the afternoon prior to the scheduled class date. This includes reminders for all in-person, online, and hybrid classes.

What is the class cancellation policy?

  • If you wish to cancel from a class, you must do so at least one day prior to the scheduled start date in order to receive a refund. There is a $5 per class cancellation fee and no refunds are given after a class begins. If you know you will be unable to attend a class, it would be appreciated of you let the office know. It provides an opportunity to those on the waiting list to be contacted.

Are online classes recorded to watch at a later time?

  • Almost all CLR Zoom classes will be recorded. If you are unable to attend a class that you signed up for, send Allison King an email at A.King@RockValleyCollege.edu or call the CLR office at (815) 921-3931 explaining your situation. If the class you missed has been recorded, you may request the link to the recording.

NOTE:  Not all online CLR classes will be recorded. It is highly recommended to contact the CLR office prior to your online class meeting date/time to ensure that there will be a recording of a specific class. These recordings will only be available for seven days after the class has ended. Once the week has elapsed, the link will no longer be active and you will no longer be able to access it. Recordings of online classes are typically available for viewing 1-5 days after the class has ended. COLLEGE COLLABORATION CLASSES HOSTED BY OTHER COMMUNITY COLLEGES ARE NOT RECORDED.

Can we use the CLR library?

  • The CLR library is open during the CLR office hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM).

HYBRID Class General Questions

In the spring 2023 semester, CLR will be offering four hybrid classes!

What is a hybrid class?

  • A hybrid class takes place both in-person and online simultaneously.

How does a hybrid class work?

  • One week prior to the hybrid class, participants will receive an email from the CLR office inquiring whether each participant plans to attend class in-person or online. Those attending the class in-person will arrive at the location of the class on the scheduled date and time. Those attending the class online will join the class virtually from home on the scheduled date and time.

What if I am unable to attend the class in-person? How will I receive the online information?

  • One day prior to the class, all registered students will receive an email reminder with the class details. The Zoom link for the class will be included in that email for those who cannot attend in-person. On the day of the class, you can use the Zoom information from that email sent the day before to access the class online.

If I am an online participant, will I be able to ask questions?

  • Yes! Online participants can use the chat box, as well as the 'Raise Hand' option from the 'Reactions' tab in Zoom to ask questions. There will be a CLR class facilitator online to assist in getting those questions to the class instructor.

If I am an in-person participant, how will the online classroom affect my in-class experience?

  • There will be a class facilitator to assist the instructor and in-person participants as needed. In addition, there will be a person in the room who is operating the camera and A/V equipment that is necessary for the online participants to be included. This person may need to move around the room at times to adjust the camera, microphone, lighting, etc. Participants on Zoom are considered participants in the class. They will be able to ask questions and make comments, as if they were in the classroom.

If I am unable to attend a hybrid class in-person or online, can I access the recording?

  • Yes! Hybrid classes will be recorded and available for viewing a few days following the class. You can request the recording from Allison King at the CLR office at A.King@RockValleyCollege.edu or by phone at (815) 921-3931. You must be a registered participant of the class to receive the recording.

NOTE: We would appreciate your feedback on the new hybrid class experience. Your comments and suggestions will help us to improve the process.
