Lynn KearneyLynn Kearney, Chairperson

Lynn Kearney was elected to the Rock Valley College Board of Trustees in April 2013 and serves as the Board Chairperson. She is a graduate of Rock Valley College and Northern Illinois University, and taught middle school science in the local area for 35 years. During that time, she also held the position of president of the Harlem Federation of Teachers Local 540 for 24 years. Lynn is currently one of 40 vice-presidents of the Illinois Federation of Teachers (IFT), a position she has held for 14 years. She also served as chair of the Civil, Human, and Women's Rights Committee for the IFT all 14 years. In the community, she has served on the board of Rockford Sexual Assault Counseling (15 years), chair of the Preschool board for Christ United Methodist Church, and in years past served on the advisory board of the Regional Office of Education.

Bob Trojan Bob Trojan, Vice Chairperson
 

Term Expires: 2021

Robert (Bob) Trojan was elected to the board in April 2015. He graduated from Chicago Vocational High School, served in the U.S. Marines and completed his BS in Mechanical Engineering from U of Illinois, and an MBA Marketing from Northwestern. He has spent his life working in and managing manufacturing companies, domestic and international. Bob came to the Rockford area in 1990 as President of Hydro-Line, Inc. and started Rockford Linear Actuation Inc. in 2002. His community service includes serving on boards of the Rockford Chamber of Commerce, Growth Dimensions, Abilities Center, Rockford Area Ventures, Community Foundation, Discovery Center, several committees dealing with manufacturing and a member of several voter referendums. He was a Community Member of the Rockford Register Star Editorial Board and is a blogger on their web site. Bob has been the Award recipient of the Chamber's Manzullo Individual Catalyst (2007), People You Should Know (2011) and the Robotics Make It Loud Award (2013). Bob and wife Norma's family includes three sons, two daughters-in-law and five grandchildren.

Patrick MurphyPatrick Murphy, Secretary
 

Term Expires: 2019

Patrick Murphy has been a trustee at Rock Valley College since April 2013 and currently serves as the Board Secretary. He is the owner of Metrology Resource Group, a quality control and high precision measurement integration, services and consulting firm. Prior to starting his own business, he was director of sales-aerospace for GE FANUC where he was responsible for the company's aerospace and military applications in the U.S.  Patrick is active in the Rockford community, including several political campaigns and Transform Rockford. He also serves on the board of MELD (Mothers and Fathers Establishing Life's Direction).

Mike DunnMichael P. Dunn, Jr.
 

Term Expires: 2019

Michael Dunn, Jr. was elected to the RVC Board of Trustees in 2011 and served two terms as Board Chairperson.  Michael is the Executive Director of the Rockford Metropolitan Agency for Planning and is a graduate of Loyola University Chicago with a B.B.S. in Management and in Finance.  He also serves on the Executive Committee of the Economic Development District of Northern Illinois, the Board of the Freedom Field Energy Initiative, and the Government Affairs Council of the Rockford Chamber of Commerce.

 

Paul Gorski
 

Term Expires: 2019

Paul Gorski was elected as a Rock Valley College Trustee in April 2017, to fill a two-year unexpired term. Paul has previously served as a Cherry Valley Township Trustee, Cherry Valley Library District Trustee, and Winnebago County Board member, and plans to bring his positive experiences from those leadership roles to his position as RVC Trustee. Paul is also involved locally as a contributor to The Rock River Times newspaper, and is the editor of the non-profit social media news outlets WinneebagoCountyyNews.org and RockfordArtNews.com on Facebook and Twitter. As an IT technology support manager and part-time news reporter, Paul enjoys asking and fielding questions.

John Nelson
 

Term Expires: 2023

John Nelson was elected to the Rock Valley College Board of Trustees for a six-year term in April 2017.  He practices law in Rockford, Illinois as a sole practitioner.  He obtained his BA in economics from St. Olaf College and graduated from Tulane Law School, New Orleans, Louisiana.    He served as the City Attorney for the City of Rockford, Illinois from 1976 until 1980 and has been in private practice ever since.  While in practice from 1980 – 1983, he served as part-time Winnebago County Public Defender.   John is also on the Federal Defender Panel representing criminal clients in the U. S. District Court, Northern and Eastern Districts of Illinois. He has been a member of the Illinois Township Attorneys Association for 25 years and currently serves as President.    He has served as the Harlem Township Attorney since 1993. In addition to practicing law, Attorney Nelson has a particular interest in politics having voted in the last five electoral colleges.  He also served four years on the Illinois State University Parent Association serving his last year as President of the association.

Jennifer Ray RVC BOT 2017Jennifer Ray
 

Term Expires: 2023

Jennifer Ray was elected to the Rock Valley College Board of Trustees for a six-year term in April 2017.  She received an Associate Degree in Nursing from Ferris State College in Big Rapids, Michigan, an Associate in Science from Rock Valley College, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northern Illinois University in 2000. Jennifer is a registered nurse and has worked at Mercy Health Hospital in Rockford since 1988.  She is currently the Supervisor of the Cardiac Services Department.

Elijah Wartgow BOT Student TrusteeElijah Wartgow, Student Trustee
 

Term: 2018-2019

Elijah Wartgow attended Harrisville Academy as well as Hallstrom Home School Workshops in high school, and at age 16 began the dual credit program through RVC until his graduation in May of 2017. The 2018-2019 school year will be his final year attending Rock Valley College, as he completes an Associate of Engineering Science. While at RVC, Elijah has completed an Associate of Science degree, served as president of the Flying Eagles Frisbee Golf Club, regularly attended Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, and served as Freshman Senator, V.P. of Internal Affairs, V.P. of Academic Affairs, and V.P. of Business Services in the Rock Valley College Student Government Association (SGA). Additionally, he was inducted into the RVC honors society, Phi Theta Kappa, in 2016. Following his graduation from RVC, Elijah plans to complete a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering through NIU. From there he anticipates attending law school, which will enable him to practice patent law in a manufacturing field.
