The RVC women's basketball team has won the first NJCAA national title in the program's history after defeating Roxbury Community College 82-64 in the national championship game in Rochester, Minnesota.
Erin Ryczek finished her career at RVC in spectacular fashion by scoring 24 points to help lead the Golden Eagles to the title. Meanwhile, freshman Revonnia Howard put together another monster performance with 23 points and 25 rebounds after tying a NJCAA tournament record in the opening round on Thursday afternoon with 28 rebounds.
The Golden Eagles survived a tight game in the tournament's opening round on Thursday afternoon, edging Montgomery College- Rockville, 67-62 in overtime behind Howard's record-tying performance and two clutch free throws by Jessica Gamble to seal the win. RVC rolled on from there, toppling top-seeded Anoka Ramsey Community College on Friday night before cruising past Roxbury in the national title game.
RVC's athletics program as a whole has now won nine NJCAA national titles- two for men's tennis, two for women's tennis, two for golf, two for volleyball, and one for women's basketball. This is the second national title for an RVC team in the last six months. The RVC women's tennis team won the national championship back in October.
