BOARD OF TRUSTEES VACANCY
November 18, 2009
Thank you for your interest in serving on the Rock Valley College Board of Trustees.
It is the responsibility of the Board of Trustees to appoint a replacement for a vacancy that currently exists due to the recent resignation of an elected trustee. The Board has created a search committee comprised of current trustees who will review applications and identify candidates to be interviewed by the full Board.
The appointed trustee will serve on the Board approximately 15 months, from January 2010 to April 2011 when a successor is elected at the next regular election for Board members.
Candidates must live within Rock Valley College District 511, which includes Winnebago and Boone counties and portions of Stephenson, Ogle, McHenry and DeKalb counties.
Regular business meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month, with committee meetings held the second Tuesday of January, March, May, September and November. Committee meetings are not held during the summer months. Meetings usually begin at 5:15 p.m. and include a light meal. In addition, trustees meet twice a year for a strategic retreat that is usually held on a Saturday.
Trustees are elected for a six-year term and serve without compensation, but are reimbursed for reasonable expenses incurred in connection with their service to the college.
As a community college trustee, you would be one member of an eight-member board. All board members have equal rights and responsibilities, with one exception – the student trustee does not have the right to vote.
Applications should be mailed to Rock Valley College Board of Trustees, c/o Ann Kerwitz, 3301 N. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL 61114-5699. Please call Ms. Kerwitz at (815) 921-4001 if you have any questions.
