Each year one outstanding second year student from the Illinois community college system is awarded the Student Lincoln Academy Medallion and, thereby, becomes a Student Laureate of the Lincoln Academy of Illinois. Student Laureates are honored for their overall excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities. Each Illinois community college may nominate one student for consideration and only one community college nominee is awarded the medallion. One representative from each of the public, four-year institutions in Illinois will also have a Student Laureate.

This year, Rock Valley College has nominated Jeffrey J. Allen for this recognition. Jeff is a 30 year-old sophomore with a 4.0 GPA. He is the president of the Omicron Eta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the honors society for the two-year college. Jeff plans to major in Spanish with a minor in Secondary Education. He graduated from Milton High School in Milton, Wisconsin in 1997.
