On an extremely chilly October afternoon at Rock Valley College, Ellsworth Community College wasted little time getting its offense warmed up. The Panthers drove right down the field on their first drive, going 59 yards in six plays and capped the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run by John Wallace. Tyrell Austin scored on a three-yard run late in the first quarter and again on a 20-yard pass from Tirrell Rennie with 9:46 to play in the second quarter as Ellsworth jumped on top 20-0. They would lead 30-0 by halftime thanks to a field goal and another touchdown strike, this time from Rennie to Quint Robinson from eight yards out with just 33 seconds to play in the first half.
Austin added his third touchdown of the day in the opening minutes of the third quarter to make it 37-0 before RVC finally made some noise on offense. The Golden Eagles put together a 10 play, 82-yard drive that finished with a three-yard touchdown run by quarterback Peter Scaffidi.
Just a few minutes later, Rennie would answer back with third touchdown pass of the day, a 10-yarder to Luke Smith that gave the Panthers a 43-6 lead. The game's final score was a big one for the Golden Eagles. RVC started with great field position at their own 47-yard line with under three minutes to play, but only one play was needed to capitalize on that short field. Scaffidi found Curtis Calvin down the right sideline for a 53-yard touchdown strike to cut the Ellsworth lead to 43-12.
Scaffidi finished the day 17-43 for 239 yards, a passing touchdown, a rushing touchdown, and one interception. His counterpart for Ellsworth, Rennie, connected on 15 of 31 for 192 yards and three touchdowns.
The Golden Eagles fall to 1-7 on the season and will play their final game on the road October 24 at Iowa Central.
