On a chilly October afternoon at Rock Valley College, the North Dakota State College of Science spoiled the homecoming festivities with a 34-13 rout of the Golden Eagles. James Ali-Carr capped first and second quarter drives by the Wildcats with a two-yard touchdown run and a four-yard touchdown reception from Cole Lanham to jump to a 13-0 lead. The Wildcats would take that lead to halftime.
RVC appeared to be getting on track with an impressive drive in the third quarter, going 61 yards in 13 plays to cut the lead to 13-7 on a six-yard run by quarterback Chris Wilkins. It was all downhill from there. After stalling on a series late in the third quarter, the Golden Eagles punt was returned 74 yards for a touchdown by Denuta Jennings to make the score 20-7. On RVC’s next possession, Adrian Lester relieved Wilkins at quarterback and was intercepted by Arieal Boyd, who returned the ball 45 yards for another Wildcats touchdown.
Then with about 10 minutes to play in the game, backed up at their own 10 and trailing 27-7, Wilkins fumbled the ball right into the waiting arms of Andrew Blood who returned the ball for another score and a 34-7 Wildcats lead.
The Golden Eagles were able to put together a 14 play, 85 yard drive that finished with a two-yard rushing score by Ty Johnson, making it 34-13.
Keith King led North Dakota State in rushing with 98 yards. Chris Wilkins led RVC with 46 yards rushing and 82 yards passing, and scored the lone RVC touchdown.
RVC falls to 1-5 overall and 0-5 in conference play. The Golden Eagles next home game is scheduled for Saturday, October 17 at 2:30 p.m. versus Ellsworth.
