A replica of the frigate, the USS Constitution, better known as "Old Ironsides," will be dedicated at 1:15 p.m. on Monday, November 12, 2012, at the Estelle M. Black Library, Educational Resource Center, Rock Valley College, 3301 N. Mulford Rd., Rockford. The ceremony is being held in conjunction with the commemoration of Veterans Day and the bicentennial of the War of 1812.
The 1/155 scale replica was built and donated to the library, where it will be on permanent display, by Ronald C. Ramlow in gratitude for the education his three children received at Rock Valley College.
Dedication ceremony remarks will be given by Captain Caroline Nielson, Chief of Staff for Commander Navy Region Midwest, Rear Admiral Rick Williamson. Military veterans, hobbyists, and historians are especially encouraged to attend. The event is free and open to the public.
