Recently appointed RVC head men's basketball coach Craig Doty has hired a familiar face to join him on the bench this season. Former Rockford Boylan head coach Steve Goers will serve as assistant coach for the RVC men's basketball program this season.Goers was head coach at Boylan from 1980 through 2011 and led the Titans to 26 conference titles, 28 regional and 17 sectional championships, eight elite-eight appearances, and a state-record 30 consecutive winning seasons. He compiled a career record of 881-264 in his 39 seasons at five different high schools (Bardolph, Oswego, LaSalle-Peru, Harvard, Boylan), making him the second winningest coach in Illinois state history. This will be Goers' first college coaching job.
"I am thrilled to announce the hiring of Steve Goers as my assistant coach at Rock Valley College," said Doty. "Coach Goers brings a great deal of experience to the floor and will help our program recruit quality student-athletes from the metro-Rockford area. His knowledge is invaluable and will be a great asset for the current and future players in our program."
Coach Goers' primary duties for the Golden Eagles will include assisting with practice and game management, opponent scouting, and recruiting coordinator for the Northern Illinois Conference (NIC-10).
