First Year Experience

Welcome to Rock Valley College!  We're excited that you have decided to pursue your educational and career goals here at RVC, and we look forward to having you on campus!

We know it's critical to build a foundation for success during your first year.  Rock Valley College's First Year Experience (FYE) programs are designed to help you, a new student, have a successful beginning for your college experience. Whether you are planning to transfer to a four year university or pursue a rewarding career after graduation, RVC can help you make the transition.

Our FYE Office is committed to developing and supporting the academic and personal success of all first year students. We offer a comprehensive and intentional experience that supports student learning and involvement.

Get Started

We're here to help you get started at RVC.

Getting Started Sessions

All new students are required to attend a Getting Started Session before registering for classes.



As an RVC student you are required to meet with an academic advisor each semester until you reach 18 college credits. 

Please discuss this requirement with an academic advisor at the end of your new student Educational Planning Session if you believe this requirement should not apply to you.

New Student Welcome Events

New Student Welcome Events include campus tours, mock classroom sessions, a campus resource fair, and other important information for you and your family’s transition to RVC.

New Student Convocation Ceremony

The 2015 New Student Convocation Ceremony will be held Wednesday, September 2, 2015, 12:30-6:00 p.m. at RVC's Bengt Sjostrom Theatre.


Pig Roast BBQ: 12:30pm – 3pm

Games/Activities/DJ: 12:30pm – 3pm

Student Life Involvement Fair: 12:30pm – 3pm

Convocation Ceremony: 3pm – 3:45pm

Concert/Live Music by Libido Funk Circus: 4pm – 6pm

STU-100 (Planning for Success) and STU-101 (Career Planning) are designed to help new students transition to college and prepare for the future!
