Graduates work as caregivers in all types of healthcare facilities and agencies.

As a health team member, nursing assistants work under the supervision of nurses and provide routine daily care and basic nursing duties related to patient care. Classroom, skill labs, and clinical experiences will prepare students to take the state test required for certification as a CNA.

Admission to the program
Enrollment in the course requires one of four testing options: the College Assessment Test administered by Rock Valley College Assessment Center, or the Certified Nursing Assistant Reading Test administered by RVC Assessment Center, or the TABE Test administered by RVC grant programs, or the ACT scores reported from the American College Testing Service. Also required are a physical exam, two-step Mantoux TB skin test, and a criminal background check, which will be initiated the first week of class.

PRE REGISTRATION REQUIREMENT: One of four tests must be or have been completed before registering or the Nursing Assistant course. Testing options include the College Assessment Test, C.N.A., Reading Test, ACT Exam, or TABE Test. Register for ONLY ONE SECTION that meets your schedule needs.


HEALTH CARE WORKER BACKGROUND ACT OF ILLINOIS REQUIREMENT: A fingerprint background check is done for all nurse’s aides during the first week of class.
