Pre-100 Level Math Courses

The Rock Valley College Mathematics Department offers developmental courses for students who do not meet the prerequisites for college transfer level mathematics courses and various career technical programs.

You may be placed into a developmental math course by the RVC Placement Test.

Developmental Math Courses Offered at Rock Valley College 

MTH 086 - Basic Skills Math

MTH 088 & 089 - Prealgebra Parts I & II

MTH 091 & 092 - Beginning Algebra Parts I & II


MTH 093 & 094 - Intermediate Algebra Parts I & II

MTH 096S - Combined Beginning and Intermediate Algebra
One-semester course covering both Beginning and Intermediate Algebra

MTH 096A - Mathematical Literacy for College Students
One-semester course satisfying the prerequisites for MTH 115 and MTH 220

MTH 097 - Elementary Plane Geometry

You May Not Need to Take MTH 097 

If you place into beginning algebra or lower you will be required to satisfy the geometry prerequisite before you will be able to enroll in a college-level math course. There are three ways to satisfy this requirement:

1. If you completed a geometry course in high school with grades of C or higher in both semesters, submit a MTH 097 Waiver Form and your high school transcript to the RVC Records Office.

OR

2. Take the RVC Geometry Competency Test--see the Testing Center for more information

OR

3. Take MTH 097 (Elementary Plane Geometry)


Policy on Repeating Developmental Math Courses

If a student receives two non-passing grades (Ds or Fs) in a developmental course, that student is not allowed to re-enroll in another math class at Rock Valley College without permission of the Associate Dean.
