Math Placement

The first math class you can take at Rock Valley College will be determined by your score on the RVC Placement Test (ACCUPLACER) or ACT.

Transfer students or students already holding a college degree may be waived from taking the Placement Test by submitting transcripts to the RVC Admissions & Records Office.

Read more about placement testing at RVC.

What is a Math Appeal?

If you don't believe your score on the RVC Placement Test (ACCUPLACER) accurately reflects your knowledge of mathematics, you may appeal your placement to the Mathematics Placement Appeal Committee.

A student may appeal to be placed one course level higher than what is mandated by the RVC Placement Test (ACCUPLACER). The student must have completed (with a grade of C or higher) the equivalent of the course into which they wish to enroll and provide documentation of this.

Note: Math appeals may only be submitted BEFORE you enroll in a RVC math class.

To appeal your math placement, submit a Mathematics Placement Appeal Form, available in the Testing Center or Math Office (CLII-214).
